Are you interested in gaining strong leadership and job skills while completing important projects in the historic Emerald Necklace park system?  If so, then the Green Team or YLP may be for you!

Green Team 2012

Green Team is a summer program in which we employ 30 youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to complete important maintenance and restoration projects in the historic Emerald Necklace park system.   Projects we have worked on in the past include shrub bed maintenance, bench painting and invasive species removal.  Within the six week program, youth also participate in a range of outdoor and experiential education workshops ranging from environmental literacy and job training workshops to hiking and camping.

In that time youth will:

• Develop leadership, team-building, and job skills
• Receive training in park stewardship within the Emerald Necklace parks
• Participate in environmental education workshops and out door field trips
• Work in a team of 10 other youth

Qualifications:

• You are a resident of Boston or Brookline
•  If you live in Boston, you are a member of Boston Youth Fund and have a Hopeline #
• You are between the ages of 14 and 18
• You are able to travel independently to the work site
• You have an interest working outdoors
• You are interested in the environment and sustainability

Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

The Youth Leadership Program is a leadership development program that fosters leadership skills while exposing young adults to fields of park restoration and maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, and environmental advocacy within the historic Emerald Necklace park system. Youth meet after school and occasionally on Saturdays for a total of eight hours of part-time employment each week.  The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is currently recruiting high school youth ages 16+ for its Youth Leadership Program, which will run October 2012 through May 2013.

In that time youth will:

• Develop leadership, team-building, and job skills
• Receive training in park stewardship within the Emerald Necklace parks
• Participate in environmental education workshops and field trips
• Meet with professionals to explore environmental careers
• Plan events, practice leading small groups, and learn team building skills

Qualifications:

• You are a resident of Boston or Brookline
•  If you live in Boston, you are a member of Boston Youth Fund and have a Hopeline #
• You are between the ages of 16 and 19
• You are able to travel independently to the work site
• You have experience and an interest working outdoors
• You are interested in the environment and sustainability

YLP Schedule:

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30 with occasional Saturday workdays, resulting in a total of 8 hours a week.
