Back To School, Back Outside

By Stephanie and Luis
We recently went to the Boston Nature Center to attend an environmental speaker series called ‘Back to School, Back Outside.’ The keynote speaker, Kevin J. Coyle, Director of the National Wildlife Federation, spoke about his mission of returning the nation’s children to what they don’t even know what they have lost: their connection to the natural world.
We find our jobs on the Leadership Team beneficial, as our mission is to get youth more involved in the parks around them. We want young people to be more involve in the parks because they yield great benefits from sight-seeing, fresh air, and outdoor activity, including being more proactive in their academics. Some studies show that 78% of children who spend regular time in unstructured outdoor activities concentrate better and outperform in the classrooms their peers who spend more time indoors.
