During our time at the Bioneers By the Bay conference, we got to hear from a lot of people speaking about their environmental and political experiences and concerns. One particularly interesting speaker was a young woman named Misra Walker who is from Hunts Point in the Bronx. Misra Walker described her neighborhood, which was always financially struggling. The area was highly polluted by thousands of huge trucks carrying trash from the city daily. In high school, Misra joined a teen advocacy group called ACTION, and took action to improve access to the local parks and life for the whole community. The group came together to help set up an efficient public transportation system that allowed people to visit their own parks, and their vision succeeded.
