After a busy summer, September is a great time to look back at the accomplishments of the Green Team. Green Team finished up in August after completing important work projects in the historic Emerald Necklace park system. This year’s Green Team worked hard on projects ranging from maintaining shrub beds in Olmsted Park to removing Asiatic Bittersweet at Pine Bank. And, they all had the opportunity to work with and learn from dedicated Assistant Crew Leaders, Crew Leaders, and the Program Assistant. It was a pleasure, as well, to work with a long list of public partners, non-profit organizations, and volunteers who helped to make this season a fun and productive one. Thank you all again for helping to complete a great season!
I took a stroll over to our garden plot at the Fenway Victory Gardens this afternoon, where the plants are growing as if a fall frost were not looming in the future. Enjoy some pictures from the garden!
Fall is approaching quickly, though, and so is the start of YLP. This year’s program will focus on leadership development while exposing young adults to fields of park restoration and maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, and environmental advocacy within the historic Emerald Necklace park system. The program starts in the second week of October. The full job description is posted on the Youth Leadership Page on this blog. Also, for more information about the program or to request an application, please contact Brittany Dunn at 617.522.2700 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
